Bio
Haemin Sunim is a Korean Zen monk and internationally respected teacher of meditation and mindfulness. Ordained in the Seon (Zen) tradition, he combines the depth of Korean Buddhist practice with a warm, approachable style that has reached millions around the world. After studies in the United States, including a master’s degree from Harvard University and a doctorate from Princeton University, he taught Asian religions at Hampshire College before dedicating himself fully to sharing the wisdom of Zen practice.
He is best known as the author of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down, Love for Imperfect Things, and When Things Don’t Go Your Way: Zen Wisdom for Difficult Times. Together, these international bestsellers have been translated into dozens of languages and read by millions worldwide. His writings emphasize the power of slowing down, cultivating compassion, and embracing life’s imperfections, offering a bridge between timeless Zen insights and the challenges of modern life.
In addition to his books, Haemin Sunim has built a global following through his public teachings, online presence, and as the founder of the School of Broken Hearts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to meditation and counseling in Seoul. Widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in contemporary Buddhism, his work continues to inspire people to live with clarity, kindness, and awareness.
