Fluidity in Zen
Exploring non-duality through mindfulness
A retreat with
Zen Master Rebecca Nie
This retreat invites participants to explore non-duality through direct, lived experience. Rather than approaching it as an abstract idea, we examine how fixed notions of self, identity, and separation begin to soften through practice. Rooted in classical Zen Buddhism, the retreat offers a grounded introduction to meditation and mindfulness in an environment that is quiet, inclusive, and reflective. The emphasis is on practical engagement, with teachings that support the integration of insight into everyday life.
A central aspect of the retreat is the use of movement as a way of exploring non-duality in the body. In addition to seated meditation, the schedule includes walking meditation, mindful movement, and simple forms of creative reflection, allowing awareness to be experienced across different activities. This approach supports stability and presence, while reflecting the Zen view that practice is not limited to formal sitting. Periods of journaling and shared reflection are also included, creating a steady rhythm that allows for both individual inquiry and connection with others.
We are honored to welcome Zen Master Rebecca Nie, who will travel from California, USA to lead this retreat. She is an author and teacher in the Korean Zen tradition, having trained under the late Yangil Sunim of the Jogye Order. In addition to her teaching, she serves as a chaplain at Stanford University. She brings a depth of experience as both a practitioner and teacher, offering guidance that is clear, grounded, and directly applicable. Her approach reflects a balance of traditional training and contemporary understanding, supporting participants in engaging the practice in a way that is both accessible and sincere.
The retreat is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners. No prior meditation experience is required.
